What is a VPN connection?

VPN or Virtual Private Network is a private and secure communication tunnel. It operates in a public network and between two or more devices. The medium of internet can be cited as an example of such a public network. In the recent years the concept of VPN has gathered a lot of momentum due to its practical usage and reliability. Nowadays the market is full of numbers of VPN service providers. Some of them are free, some are partially free and rests are paid. But before going to investment your money in any one of them you should first understand what VPN stands for. Is it really for you?

The history of internet is not so old. In the initial phases of development the medium of internet was really free for everyone. At that point it was really easy to express yourself fully over the internet. But with time government censorship came to fore in the world of internet. Moreover cyber criminals started ruining financial health of netizens. Thus the concept of VPN emerged. This technology has been helping countless netizens since its invention to access and use the internet without any limitation or barrier. You must have experienced that you are not able to access some websites over the internet for your geographical location. VPN can help you to scale down that barrier. VPN is truly a global phenomenon. What I am writing here about VPN is just the tip of the iceberg. Actually it has a lot of business usage too. It allows you to access your business network while travelling.

Whenever you connect to the internet, the device you are using gets a unique IP address. It is a numerical label which identifies the device you are using and your location. When you use VPN technology, your real IP address is not disclosed to any intruder in your network or the server you are requesting information from. This allows you to surf the internet anonymously. For example, if you are trying to access Netflix with the help of a USA based VPN service then Netflix will allow your entry into their system thinking of you as if you are residing in USA.
