Choose a Fast VPN

Virtual private networks (VPNs) are a great bit of technology. But if you’re not 100% tech literate, there’s a lot of jargon to wade through and you might be put off simply by looking into which VPN is best for you. Essentially the problem is this:  If you don’t understand the technology fully, how can you be sure your getting the fastest, most secure VPN service? Luckily, we’re here to help you through the mess of jargon so you understand VPNs a little better. You can read a basic guide to VPNs here, but today we’ll be concentrating on how you can choose a fast VPN.

First of all, a few things to bear in mind about VPNs and speed: Don’t be surprised if your internet speed is reduced when using a VPN. You are using a piece of software which (for most people) is used in conjunction with surfing of the net after all! Some users report a slowing down of their internet performance by up to 75% when their VPN is operating, but this isn’t always the case. Secondly, what counts as a good VPN speed? Speeds of between of 2 and 4 Mb per second are quite normal,  5 Mb per second are also often seen and are hitting quite a good standard, whilst VPNs managing 15 Mbps and over should be considered the best. Finally, we consider some different VPNs and how well they compare in terms of their speed:

  • HotSpot Shield is a great VPN for ensuring better privacy on the internet, as well as keeping out that nasty malware! And what’s best is that it performs at a very good speed (with downloads at over 5 Mb per second). The one down side with this VPN provider though is that if you are using the free version you’re going to be get annoyed with the barrage of advertisements thrust upon you.
  • CyberGhost also offer a free version of their VPN service, and their paid service is quite a good deal. With this package you receive an allowance of just under 2000 GB of  traffic every month, at a maximum with bandwidth speed of 1 Mb per second. With more than 200 servers in 19 different countries, they’re also widely available – meaning you’ll get to use this speedy service where ever you are!

That’s all for today. But if you’re interested in looking into fast VPNs, I’d also recommend looking at Hide My Ass. Click on the button below for more information:
